“What’s the best day of your life? What’s the worst?”
Those were the questions a vlogger asked a job candidate during an interview. It stuck with me. I started thinking about my own answer.
Now—outside of the obvious ones like your wedding day or the birth of your children—I have to say… mine is the same for both questions.
November 8, 2012.
That was the day I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I know—it might sound strange that the worst and best day of my life is the same one. But let me explain.
The Worst Day:
The doctor explained it simply—but the weight was crushing.
“MS is a neurodegenerative disorder caused by the immune system mistakenly attacking the myelin sheath—the protective coat around your nerve fibers. That attack disrupts electrical signals between the brain and the body. There’s no cure. Symptoms vary—fatigue, numbness, walking issues, pain, mood swings. But treatments exist to help slow progression.”
You sit there, stunned. Processing that your life just changed forever. What now?
The Best Day:
MS became a teacher.
It made me zoom out and see life differently. I started noticing the small wins. I learned that a “good day” doesn’t mean everything’s perfect. It means things are manageable. It means you’re thankful just to be able to do something.
Because of MS, I appreciate everything—because now, nothing is guaranteed. And oddly enough, that’s a gift.
I can’t write like I used to. I can’t shoot hoops. I can’t talk for long stretches. Some conversations are hard to hold.
But…
I can still serve Jesus. I can enjoy time with my family. I can go to work. I can walk. I can see the world.
MS took some things from me—but it gave me a new lens. And with that lens, I’ve learned to take nothing for granted.
So—what about you?
What’s your moment? What’s your best and worst day? Stop. Pause. Reflect.
You might be surprised what you find.
