Every week during our busiest time of the year, I try to remind our technicians, installers, and customer service team why we do what we do. Last week, I sent them the message below.
I decided to share it because it's the reason Simmons One Hour Heating & Air Conditioning has been serving families across our communities since 1953. It's also what I believe every homeowner deserves from the company they invite into their home.
-----
Team,
I want to challenge every one of us today.
When you pull into a driveway, don’t see it as another service call. See it as your mom’s house. Your grandma’s house. Your own home.
If your family’s part was on backorder, would you simply say, “We’ll call you when it comes in,” and leave? Or would you ask, “What can I do today to help get them through until that part arrives?”
That’s the mindset that separates good companies from great ones.
Can we safely install a universal part? Can we safely make a temporary repair? Can we recharge refrigerant while we wait on a coil if it’s the right solution? Is there another safe option that gets this family some relief?
Sometimes the answer will be no, and that’s okay. But before the answer is no, ask yourself: Did I look for every reasonable option? Did I seek a solution? Did I have the conversation?
Our job isn’t just to diagnose the problem. It’s to do everything we safely and ethically can to help the family in front of us. Think beyond the repair itself and think about the people living in that home. That’s the difference between simply fixing HVAC systems and truly serving people.
We can’t control manufacturers. We can’t control shipping delays. We can’t control when a backordered part finally shows up.
But we can control the experience.
We control our attitude.
We control our effort.
We control our communication.
We control whether a customer feels like they’re just another stop on the schedule or like they’re the only customer that matters.
The customer doesn’t care that we’ve been running hundreds of calls. They care that their house is hot. Their kids can’t sleep. Their elderly parent is uncomfortable. Their family needs help.
That’s why people call Simmons One Hour.
Companies can replace a part. Not everyone can change how a customer feels.
Don’t be transactional. Be relational.
Slow down enough to listen. Educate. Encourage. Solve problems. Look for opportunities to exceed expectations instead of simply meeting them. Those are the moments customers remember for years. Those are the moments that create five-star reviews, lifelong customers, and referrals.
Our goal isn’t just to fix air conditioners.
Our goal is to take care of people.
That’s why we aren’t the cheapest, and that’s okay. We deliver value that goes far beyond the equipment. We deliver trust, professionalism, compassion, and peace of mind.
I know it’s hot. I know you’re tired. I know you’re giving everything you’ve got.
But this is where championship teams separate themselves. Elite teams show up when it’s hard.
I believe in this team. I believe in our culture. I believe we have the best technicians anywhere, and now let’s make sure every customer feels that before we ever leave their driveway.
Every call is an opportunity to serve.
Every customer is someone’s family.
Let’s make today another day that proves why no one takes better care of homeowners than Simmons One Hour.
Let’s go.

Why I'm Sharing This With You
I don't expect homeowners to know every repair we make or every challenge we face behind the scenes. You shouldn't have to.
What I do hope you notice is how you're treated.
When one of our technicians walks into your home, I want you to feel heard. I want you to understand what's wrong, what your options are, and why we're recommending a particular solution. If there's a safe temporary option while we wait on a backordered part, we'll look for it. If there isn't, we'll explain why. Either way, you'll never be left wondering where things stand.
That's the culture we've worked to build over the past seven decades.
It's why many of our customers have trusted us for generations, referring their children and even grandchildren to us when it's time for heating and air conditioning service.
Here's the Takeaway
When you hire an HVAC company, you're not just paying for a repair. You're choosing who you trust to care for your home and your family's comfort.
Whether your system needs a simple repair or it's nearing the end of its life, you deserve honest advice, clear communication, and people who genuinely care about doing what's best for you.
If one of our technicians has been to your home this summer, we'd love to hear about your experience.
And if your system is getting older—most of the systems we replace are 12+ years old and have quietly become less reliable and more expensive to operate—we're happy to take a look, explain exactly what we find, and help you understand your options.
No pressure.
No games.
Just honest advice from a team that's been serving our neighbors since 1953.
